Era 3 Engines
Researching just the solid lines on engines will get you to the next engine quicker. Unless otherwise noted or required, I don't recommend researching all engine upgrades.
- ODIN: If you don't have Era 2 Coupling and you need an Era 3 engine quickly, the ODIN is a good option. The base Speed of 125 km is only little slower than the LYNX and it also has 3 cars with either traction upgrade. The quickest way to the MORPHEUS is by researching the DIONYSOS path.
- HERCULES: With its slow Speed, low Acceleration and Reliablity, the HERCULES is not a popular engine.
- DIONYSOS: The DIONYSOS has 3 cars (4 with an upgrade), a base Speed of 150 km (180 km with 2 upgrades), a base Acceleration of 10/20 (14/20 with an upgrade), and a base Reliablity of 40% (60% with 2 upgrades). The DIONYSOS is one of two good single slot engines options. Fully researching the DIONYSOS is only recommended if you are going to be replacing your Ers 2 engines with the DIONYSOS.
- PROMETHEUS: The PROMETHEUS has high acceleration, but a base speed of only 80 km. Still with the required upgrade it can haul 5 cars. On short runs it might be an option until you research better engines.
- ORIRIS: The ORIRIS has 4 cars (5 with an upgrade), a base Speed of 90 km (120 km with 2 upgrades), base Acceleration of 4/20 (6/20 with an upgrade), and a base Reliablity of 80% (95% with an upgrades). While the ORIRIS has slower Speed and lower Acceleration than the DIONYSOS, the exrta car and much higher Reliablity rating still makes it the best single slot engine of Era 3, in my opinion. Though I can see an argument to be made for the DIONYSOS on shorter runs. You will likely use at least one single slot engine because you can only have 7 MORPHEUS in Era 3. You are left with one slot remaining since the max engine slots in Era 3 is 15. Fully researching the ORIRS is only recommended if you already researched Era 3 Coupling and have extra research points.
- MORPHEUS: MORPHEUS is the best all around engine in Era 3. Getting to it as quickly as you can should be your highest goal in the research area. With 2 upgrades each, the MORPHEUS can haul 12 cars, has a Speed of 250 km, an Acceleration of 3/20 and a Reliablity of 75%. Fully researching the MORPHEUS is required before you can research Era 3 Coupling. The MORPHEUS does take 2 engine slots so you will have fewer engines to manage.
Coupling enables you to haul the next Era's goods too.
